Stay Safe This Christmas Season
This time of year is busy and hectic. It is also a time when many house fires start needlessly. Be sure to take these simple precautions to make your season happy and safe.
- Always unplug your Christmas lights when you are not home or asleep.
- Check the batteries in your smoke detectors. It's a great idea to change the batteries when the time switches over to Daylight Savings Time. But, if you didn't do it in November, be sure you take care of it now.
- If you have a live Christmas tree, be sure to keep it well watered. Also keep it away from heaters, vents and other sources of heat.
- Just in case a fire starts, be sure to have an escape plan. If you live in a multi-story building, make sure you have an escape ladder. You may never need it, but it could save your life in the event of a fire.
- Use flameless candles instead of open flames. You'll get the same atmosphere, but won't have to worry about something igniting.
